Is there a method to prevent it from entering your pc if the flash drive in infected ?

Someone had told me something about usb fix or something?
Yes, I have used it but eventually wrote my own
https://www.fosshub.com/UsbFix.html
How do you use it to prevent infections entering your pc ?
Install it on computer. When you insert USB it deleted the malicious shortcuts and unhides folders. It technically does not remove the actual virus binary
Disable Autoplay and Autorun. Do not explore files on the connected USB storage before scanning with the antivirus program. Alternative to USB fox is smadv
http://smadav.net/?lang=en
What are your thoughts on smadav and does it help prevent the pc from getting infected ?
Like any other apps, will not solrly depends on it though it has quite a feature list. Like heuristic & whitelisting (file reputation), anti exe, detect ransowmare, automatically unhide files in USB Flashdisk, etc. best is not autorun USB directly and scan it before use.
Best is to block execution from USB. Shortcut virus does not depend on autorun
Do you think having a paid antivirus can help a lot? Thinking of getting Bitdefender as I've been hearing good reviews about it ?
Not really about paid but it does turn on feature like blocking and cleaning etc compared to trial version.
Actually AV has on demand scan and on access real time scanning that is to protect you. But it is as good as the signature available for the virus.
Autorun and autoplay does not stop it but it minimise a direct execution of the virus, if any.
In any case, you will still need the functio (not trial) anti malware in place and some (SEP) may even  make the USB readonly but does not stop you if you run the spoofed executable from USB. Still need vigilance on hygiene from user end.
So I'm trying a combination of avast and smadav and it seems to be working fine
Hi Brian,

Would you mind closing your question and awarding points to the comments you found most helpful please? I'm sure all the experts who tried to help would much appreciate that :)

Thanks.

There is not one but many solutions to remove shortcut virus.  If you don't want to install antivirus or other software then you can follow How to remove shortcut virus on ytechb. https://www.ytechb.com/remove-shortcut-virus-pc-permanently/
To my knowledge, UsbFix is the best solution for shortcut virus. It's a plug and play standalone software.

Other than that, there are 5 other shortcut virus removing methods.
