unable to remove mailbox role - Uninstall cannot continue. Database 'Public Folder Database. Exchange isn't able to check for public folder replicas for....

I'm trying to uninstall the mailbox role on my old Exchange 2010 server... I've removed all DBs including the public DBs.. I'm getting the below message when uninstalling via the control panel.  What should I do?

Error:
Uninstall cannot continue. Database 'Public Folder Database xxxxxxxx': Exchange isn't able to check for public folder replicas for "Public Folder Database xxxxxx". Verify that the Microsoft Information Store service is running on EXCHANGEPRIMARY.domain.com, and that the database is mounted correctly.

Excellent article for removing public folder and replicas, and if everything is removed, it shows how to remove via ADSIedit.

I was able to remove via ADSI..  Now mailbox role is uninstalled, however, I still see traces in my Exchange environment of my old Exchange server.  How do I remove my old Exchange server via ADSI?

Did you uninstall Exchange completely from the old server? if you didn't uninstall completely first including management tools, i would do that before using ADSIEdit. If ADSI is the last option see the below link. It offers 2 use case senerioes and yours sounds like the second one in the article.

I removed the management tools and it seems to be gone from the environment now..  Doubling checking.
