Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features, select Office and do a Full (Online) Repair (not a Quick Repair). Restart and test.

Hi pasnjoy,

This is most likely to be a problem with Add-ins. To test that theory, open Outlook using safe mode.

  • Press Windows Key+R on your keyboard
  • Type Outlook /safe and press your Enter Key
  • Select the appropriate Outlook profile if prompted
  • Create a temporary new Email message
  • Click InsertSignature now

Does Insert Signature work without hanging Outlook now? If so, it's likely to be an add-in problem. Perform the following steps;

Troubleshooting Add-ins

  • In Outlook, click FileOptionsAdd-ins
  • Disable all Add-ins
  • Close Outlook and reopen in normal mode
  • Test now to ensure all is ok
  • Re-enable add-ins one at a time until you find the troublesome one

If the above doesn't resolve the issue for you, then are you using Windows 10? If so, it could also be a conflict between Outlook and Microsoft's Office Desktop Apps if you have them installed. You can eliminate this as the cause by doing the following;

  • Close Outlook
  • Press your Windows Key and type Apps & features
  • Click the Apps & features result or just hit enter
  • In the search box under the Apps & features category, type Microsoft Office Desktop Apps
  • If Office Desktop Apps are installed, uninstall them
  • Reopen Outlook in normal mode and test again

I hope that's helpful.

Regards, Andrew
