log file for sharepoint getting large on weekends

I have a sharepoint 2013 environment.  there is one database log file that gets very large over the weekend.  it is the transaction log for sharepoint config.
could i hurt the system operational if i limit the size of the transaction file to say... 4 gigs.  it grows to 26 gigs over the weekend.  all the db's for sharepoint are in simple mode.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

For one, whatever operations happen on the weekend would fail because they would result in SQL Server trying to grow the log file beyond your pre-set limit.

Do you know what is causing the log files to grow so large? Normally, it would be some sort of a bulk database operation that operates on a large number of records or some sort of maintenance activity.

I would guess that you have the Reindex job scheduled for the weekend, what makes the transaction log grows. How often do you run the Transaction Log backup for the SharePoint database?

I did have the rebuild indexes and reorg indexes to run over the weekend.  I have turned them off to see if that is the cause.  I will advise
