log file for sharepoint getting large on weekends

I have a sharepoint 2013 environment.  there is one database log file that gets very large over the weekend.  it is the transaction log for sharepoint config.
could i hurt the system operational if i limit the size of the transaction file to say... 4 gigs.  it grows to 26 gigs over the weekend.  all the db's for sharepoint are in simple mode.
