Update column in excel from another sheet based on condtion

I have  columns A , B , C in Sheet1  to mention for my question
Also Columns A,B,C in sheet2
I  need to update Column B and C in Sheet1  from  Column B and C in Sheet2   for the rows where Column A in Sheet1 matches Column A in Sheets2

How can I achieve this using formula or built in excel functions ?  ( Need it Without a macro .  Also I can do this with sql query by converting to access  . But  because this is a frequent operation, I need this right from excel)

In column B in Sheet1, use...

 =VLOOKUP(A2, Sheet2!A:C, 2, FALSE)

...and in column C in Sheet1 use this...

 =VLOOKUP(A2, Sheet2!A:C, 3, FALSE)

The above formulas assume you have a header row in row 1 and your data starts at row 2. Once entered, copy the formulas down as required.

Can VLookup really update values? Is that not really for looking the values?
Wayne Taylor (webtubbs)Commented:
Yes. VLOOKUP does look up values as it's name suggests, and returns the value from the specified column of the lookup range.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "update", but once you've got the formulas in place, the values are updated automatically.

If the above doesnt suit your needs, as we always suggest, please upload an example workbook to show us exactly what it is you require.
