How Does Renaming an Active Directory Group Impact User Access to folders.

How Does Renaming an Active Directory Group Impact User Access to folders.

I have AD security group that has access to folders.
I would ike to rename that Security Group to different display name and account name. I mean later when you look at any of the folder/subfolder/file security permissions you should see the new name instead of the old one.

What is the best way to accomplish that without interrupting user access to their files and folders.

Thank you

It doesn't affect anything. The name is used only for human use, the SID is what AD uses for identification so as long as you don't mess with the SID it will be fine and will display the new name anywhere it's referenced.

edit: basically change the name to whatever you want to be and you'll see that name and permissions will remain the same.

File and folder access should not be affected by changing the display name of an AD Security group, as they are associated with the underlying unique SID. However, custom scripts or applications that refer to the the group name with the actual name will be affected.
