After unexpected shutdown Active Dir is not functioning correctly and is having Connectivity Issues
Posted on 2018-03-13
After unexpected shutdown the active directory server and it's HyperV Host had problems with network/IP connectivity. Host server will now only take a DHCP address. And will not ping or be pinged. Was able to recreate the virtual switch connection for the Active Dir server with it's previous addressing. The NIC on the AD Server says "Unidentified Network with No Internet Access", but has access. User's PC's can ping the AD IP address and the gateway. (Watchguard Firewall) Primary DNS is handled by the DC, and secondary DNS and DHCP is handled by the firewall.
In the Server Manager of the AD Server "AD DS and DNS" are green with requisite services running.
But across the network users can't access file shares, access other HyperV servers via the manager, etc.
I did hardware diagnostics on the server and it seems fine. Since so much was IP related i put in an additional NIC to see if that helped, but problems followed. Watchguard firewall is not showing any errors that i can tell and is updated. (M200) The host server can now take a DHCP address and reach the Internet, but can ping nothing. Not even the gateway that it gets its DHCP address from. It can reach some things on the internet, but connectivity is latent and erratic. But reminder the HyperV AD that runs on this host does not have these problems.
In need of help of what to troubleshoot next. Thanks. We are new to the Domain and thought we had it sorted as it has worked fine for weeks.
