I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Practically nothing. Any laptop from 2007 is really practically worth nothing.
Basically, just put a linux distro on it, just for hobby purposes.
So, exactly what you paid for it, is exactly what you paid too much for it.

You will be able to browse and use Youtube, though not perfectly smooth (might be some pauses and stuttering here and there, Youtube can' display full HD quality content, so it'll drop to a lower resolution as well). Sadly, Linux could be a tough pill to swallow, but it's the only free and safe way to do so (the Windows version that came with it is not safe anymore).

When you say it's not safe

The laptop probably came with the Windows version of that time, which is Windows XP. Windows XP has not been updated for years now, so security leaks all over the place when you still use it.
You have to use a currently supported operating system to be safe, and Windows 10 will for sure NOT RUN on that old a hardware.
Therefore, you're left with the free option of Linux. Try to get someone to help you burn a CD with Ubuntu:
https://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/1710
Install it, familiarize yourself a bit, then start using it.
