Network Hardware not detected

I have an HP 8100 Compaq Elite running Win7 that just recently downloaded the update KB4088875 which made the NIC unusable saying no hardware is detected. 3 other machines had the same issue, but they had restore points so I rolled them back and everything is working. But one machine has no restore points. Steps taken:

1. Booted into safe mode and deleted update KB4088875. Restarted and still no network connectivity.
2. Went in Device Manager and uninstalled the unknown Ethernet connection, restarted and plugged Ethernet back in. Still no NIC detected.
3. Attempted to download correct driver from a different laptop, and then using a thumb drive to install it on the broken PC.
4. The PC failed to open the thumb drive due to the fact it doesn't have the appropriate driver...

Any ideas?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

That is a known issue with KB4088875 and in fact MS actually stopped pushing that update.  The recommended "fix", not by MS since they are not officially acknowledging its an issue, is to uninstall that update.

There is also KB4088878 that could be causing it. Did you check for that one?

Also, MS released a VB script sometime ago for a similar issue that some people are claiming has worked in fixing the current issue for them.

I have been trying to recreate the issue and have not been successful so I can not test any other solutions.  Hopefully someone else can jump in here and assist.

I have that update installed on my Windows 7 machine here and it is working fine (network and all)

Try update BIOS, Chipset and Video drivers, then try updating the Network card again.

Thank you guys for your quick responses and suggestions. Mr. Hurst's idea worked for me. But the other two worked very well for other people, just not in my situation. Thanks again.
