Office 365 Backup Solutions?

I'm in the process of searching for an Office 365 backup solution. I completed a trial of Barracuda's Cloud to Cloud backup and found that it did not backup items like Outlook Contacts, Shared Mailboxes and O365 Groups. It also had some bugs with backing up SharePoint data e.g. constantly asking to reauthorize the SharePoint data source. I just signed up for a trial of AvePoint Cloud Backup for O365. I'm working on the initial configuration so I don't have any feedback at the moment. Have any of you worked with AvePoint? If so how has your experience been with the product? Also are there any other O365 Backup solutions that are worth checking out?

There are various options out there if you Google for Office 365 backup solutions. But I recommend Stellar office 365 Extractor for this purpose.

Hi,

Actually, I don't have idea about AvePoint Cloud Backup for O365. But there are multiple methods. I am going to share my personal experience which might help you.

I was under an odd situation where my customer needs to backup Office 365 mailboxes. I asked him to configure O365 tenant in Outlook and use import export wizard to take out the PST file but, it got failed. But when I did research, I found that there exist several other workarounds for Office 365 backup.

First Procedure: Using Powershell Command (Free)
Second Procedure: Using eDiscovery Tool (Free)
Third Procedure; Using Office 365 Backup Tool(Paid)

The above mentioned workarounds to taking backup of Office 365 data is useful only for technical person. But, when it comes about the easiness, these workarounds fails here. On the other hand, Office 365 Backup tool meets with requirement of ends user. Neither PowerShell command nor Outlook is required for download data from Exchange online tenant.

Thanks everyone for your responses!

We have decided on AvePoint as our backup solution for O365. AvePoint offers the most comprehensive backup solution for O365 that I was able to find in my research for a solution.

If your interested check out AvePoint at https://www.avepointonlineservices.com/

I guess my comment would be along the lines of, "what are you hoping to achieve with a secondary backup product?"  It's far cheaper and easier to purchase an Exchange Online Plan 2 license and put your mailboxes on litigation hold or a retention policy than it is to back up mailboxes and have to worry about administering a second solution.

Office 365 mailboxes are replicated in DAGs, and deleted items are kept for 14 days by default (up to 30 if you configure it so).  If you have retention policies enabled and an EXO P2 license, the user's content won't get deleted (even if they want it to) until the litigation hold or retention policy expires.

SharePoint Online libraries are backed up twice a day as well.  It's site-level backup only (not document granular), but again, you can enable the SharePoint recycle bin and retention policies and have a resilient solution.  With the 2 stage recycle bin, you have 91 days of backup content that you can recover from.  Each document in SPO has 500 revisions saved as well if you have versioning enabled.  If you're looking at solutions for OneDrive for business, check out the blog I wrote using OD4B versions for ransom and cryptoware recovery: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/undocumentedfeatures/2017/10/16/recovering-from-crypto-or-ransomware-attacks-with-the-onedrive-for-business-admin-tool/
Hi,

Great if you found a better solution to Backup Office 365 On your own tenant.

Also, If you want to backup Office 365 Mailbox items and Keep it on your Local System, External Hardrive or share with other users. Then SysTools Office365 Backup & Restore is the best solution for you in just $19 (one time). Software Export Office 365 Mailbox items in multiple classic file formats i.e. PST/ EML/ EMLX/ MBOX/ MSG and gives you option to save it locally.
