Windows 2008-r2 installation:

Can windows 2008-r2 be installed from a usb drive? I have the iso file

Yes, just use RUFUS tool to create bootable USB drive

This is very good tool for any Bootable USB with any OS
download USB DVD tool from Microsoft and it can convert and burn it into pen drive
More detail on the system onto which you plan on installing may require the USB to gave the server HW drivers for backplane, raid controller if any, etc. without which the is Instalked will not see the storage.......
In a USB boot, you may have to manually access the raid controller firing bootup to setup the initial raid volume while the partitioning of the volumes can be done within the install configuration.

i'm with Tom Cieslik suggestion to use RUFUS .. great tool
on what system are you installing? does it have usb 2 or usb 3 ports?
best install from an USB 2 device and port for compatibility

The requirements are
1- Operating System ISO (Official)
2- License
3- Ultra ISO

Just followed a tutorial (link provided below) and installed Windows 8 straightaway.
