The Host of vm machines (A physical server)

I saw in the server room there were a host of VM machines (a physical server which hosts 4 vm machines).

I also saw NAS (Network-Attached Storage) and SAN (Storage Area Network).

Question: Which Storage Area network did the above the host of vm machines use? NAS or SAN? Why?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

could have used any or all or none.  You can't tell just by looking, you have to know this.  This is why part of being an administrator is documenting everything

without investigating the Host Configuration, it's difficult to guess ?

Anything stated would be speculation.

Start with machine descriptions on the host & what the host has as hardware & software setup.
Then complete the map by drawing all the relations you can find....

Start with     NAS --------------- HOST ----------------- SAN

from that find what services are provided by all three  and combine it all.
And your forgot an import part NETWORK..., and the could mean multiple networks actually so also investigate routers, switches (Ethernet & FC) if applicable.
