Visual Studio 2017 - ASP.NET Dev Question

I recently built an ASP.NET application using Microsoft Visual Studio 2017.  For some reason I now see dlls from the 3rd-party vendor (DevExpress) appearing in the bin folder.  In the past the references to the dlls was made from the install location of the dlls (as indicated in the registry).

a. What setting did I modify to cause this behavior?
b. Is this the best practice?

I would much rather continuing with this practice.  I need to set the properties in the rest of my projects.

Thanks

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Any referenced .dll's (third party) should be in the bin folder or when you copy the folder onto another system that doesn't have the assemblies in the GAC the solution won't work

Click on the reference in the references tab
Hit F4 to bring up the properties grid
Set "Embed Interop Types" to False (this will allow you to select Copy Local)
Set "Copy Local" to true
