how hard is upgrading Windows WSFC prior to Windows 2016 ?

from this link:

https://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/5053/setup-and-implement-sql-server-2016-always-on-distributed-availability-groups/

The famous writer said :

"In previous versions of Windows Server, upgrading the operating system or the hardware meant provisioning a new WSFC, copying the configuration and databases, synchronizing them to minimize downtime during the upgrade and performing the cutover."

so any one has any idea on how hard to upgrading windows with WSFC built and SQL server AOG built  ? is it really hard ?

Failover clusters running Hyper-V virtual machine and Scale-out File Server (SOFS) workloads can be upgraded from Windows Server 2012 R2 (running on all nodes in the cluster) to Windows Server 2016 (running on all cluster nodes of the cluster) without downtime.
Other cluster workloads, such as SQL Server, will be unavailable during the time (typically less than five minutes) it takes to failover to Windows Server 2016.

Just run the Windows Setup. It will recognize that a previous version is installed and will prompt for the upgrade.
Of course, as usual, perform a full backup of your system, so you can restore it if needed.

Omar Soudani,

what is that mean ? how it works ? or simply say failover the primary nodes to other passive node and just run Windows 2016 setup.exe on the old primary nodes, and then do this for the rest of the node?

Victor, it should be that?
