I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Looks like .Net got clobbered. Usually happens when a, 3rd party app is installed. Especially apps that use IIS.  Easiest way back is to restore a backup from before the damage.

I wouldn't have any idea when the damage occurred. Last time I set up a workstation with "Connect" was maybe 6 months ago. Would un-installing and re-installing .net help?

Maybe. If it is only a .Net issue, yes. If it clobbered IIS, no. And there is no good repair if it messed with IIS settings.

It might very well be IIS. I have been having fits setting up Anywhere Access too. All I get when I try and connect remotely is the IIS Web Page. This was a clean install too.....

BYW I can't uninstall the .NET Framework 4.6. Just about every component of Essentials relies on it. It says I need to demote the server first :)

The issue actually turned out to be security on the C:\Windows\Temp folder. How it got changed after running fine for 6 months is beyond me. I have had the exact same thing happen in Windows 10. Leave it to Microsoft......
