I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Open Control Panel, Programs and Features, Windows Features and disable IE. Restart the computer (you must), run Windows 8 updates and see if it updates IE. If not, go back to Windows Features, enable IE, Restart and try running updates again.

Check your version. Windows 8 came with IE 11 so it may be at IE 11 or something may have happened going backward.

Upgrade to 8.1 seemed to fix the issue and auto update to IE11

Good point - mis-read the above.

Sid - did you try the points in my first post here?  Removing IE before updating and enabling IE after and updating again?
