"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

f you forgot your Wi-Fi network password, you can find it if you have another Windows PC already connected to your Wi-Fi network. After you find your password, you can use it on another PC or device to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

On a Windows PC that’s connected to your Wi-Fi network, do one of the following, depending on which version of Windows is running on your PC:
On Windows 10, select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Network & Internet  > Status  > Network and Sharing Center.

Or DL one of these https://en.softonic.com/downloads/wifi-password

You left off a couple of more steps...

When in the Network and Sharing Center, click on the link next to Connections..

Then click on "Wireless Properties".

Then the Security tab.

Then make sure "Show characters" is checked.  That is your Wi-Fi password for your SSID.

It is encrypted in Windows 10.  You can possibly use Kernel Password Unmask from Nucleus Technologies to show it.

Otherwise, delete the wireless profile, reset your wireless router password and make a new password.

John, it is not encrypted in Windows 10.  Follow my steps above.  I just did this on a Win10 machine.

JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Good point. That is a serious security breach for anyone who can get to your machine.

I did some digging. We must be local administrators of our machines to get the password this way. If Standard User, the trick will not work - you would have to OK the UAC prompt with the admin credentials.

Scott CSenior EngineerCommented:
Ah, ok.  As I'm an admin on just about any machine I touch, I've never bumped into the UAC prompt.  Good to know.

You are not the Admin then

At command prompt:
netsh wlan show profile name=SSID key=clear
(replace SSID with the name of the wireless network)
key content was my password

Scott CSenior EngineerCommented:
As it doesn't appear you are the admin on this computer, you need to ask whoever set up the wireless for the password.

JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Yes and the actual administrator should know the password.

netsh wlan show profile name=SSID key=clear
worked when I right clicked and ran as admin

thanks
