I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

I seem to recall an issue like that from last year after an update, which was fixed a day or so later with a patch to the update.

Try installing all Office updates to today - that might fix it, and even if it doesn't, then good practice anyway :-)

There have been security updates recently to Office 2010 and you should do these updates.

Look in Outlook, Options, Trust Center, Trust Center Settings and review Automatic Download and Attachment handling. I loosened these settings to allow links and downloads.

See it that works.

If the above doesn't help, then try following the steps on this page - it is a 'not uncommon' problem:

http://www.slipstick.com/problems/this-operation-has-been-cancelled-due-to-restrictions/

Slipstick.com was setup by Sue Mosher, way back (probably 90s), then taken over by Diane Poremsky in the 2000s - Both having been Outlook MVPs.  The site is very well respected.

if the problem us recent - do a system restore to a date all was ok

Try opening outlook in safe mode to see if the problem still exists.

Windows Key + R
Type Outlook /safe

Test once outlook opens. If it works, chances are that an add-in is causing the problem. In that case, disable all add-ins and re-enable one by one until you find the troublesome one.

Also, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, click on Office and go to uninstall - you should get a prompt to do a repair. Do a full repair of Office and then retest once done.

I hope that's helpful.

Regards, Andrew
