"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The speakers probably are damaged. Speakers use a magnetic coil to push pull a cone of paper/plastic that converts the electrical energy into sound waves. A tear in the cone or if the coils have shifted can cause this.

The coils can shift if they become overheated and where they are wound becomes distorted

I use Equalizer APO to push my laptop volume past 100% so I can hear things that have been recorded too quietly, doesn't half make some bad noises if something is loud to start with.
most internal speakers have very bad sound; they are too small to produce a decent sound;
 if you want a better sound, use external speakers - use the line output, or usb speakers
