FREE PDF Software?

I'm looking for a FREE PDF viewer/creator/editor software that is equivalent to Adobe Acrobat DC as in functions for Windows 10. What are some good FREE recommendations?

Hi Brett,

Frankly, though this won't be the answer you won't be hoping to hear, such a product doesn't exist. Adobe Acrobat is a very powerful PDF editing tool that costs a lot of money because of its capabilities and the amount of coding and bug repairs that have had to be done over many years.

As others have pointed out, you have reasonably priced alternatives, such as pdfelement and PDF-Xchange PRO that do a respectable job in imitating the capabilities of Adobe Acrobat Professional, they are poor copies at best when you start to compare the power of them to the genuine Adobe product.

I say all that as an owner and licensed user for all three of the above products. Though I own a license to the genuine Adobe Pro product, I'll often use FPF Elements or PDF-Xchange Pro for certain tasks because I prefer their user Interface over Adobes at times.

So the answer to your question...

...is that you won't find what you're looking for.
What are some good FREE recommendations?
None. Sorry, but that's the reality of the situation.

I hope that's helpful.

Regards, Andrew

I'm sorry, but this seems like a really low-effort question.
A simple Google search can yield dozens of good options.  Even Wikipedia has a comparison of popular applications

FREE PDF ... creator/editor software that is equivalent to Adobe Acrobat DC

There are some options available to you as noted above. Few if any will be equivalent to Adobe Acrobat. Even the low budget non-free alternatives are not equivalent.

Hi Brett,
I'm looking for a FREE PDF viewer/creator/editor software that is equivalent to Adobe Acrobat DC as in functions for Windows 10.
Simple answer: there are none!

There are many alternatives to Adobe Acrobat DC (both Pro and Standard), but none is "equivalent". Even non-free ones aren't equivalent, let alone free ones.

Two of my favorite alternatives are Nuance's Power PDF (Standard and Advanced, but neither is free) and Tracker's PDF-XChange Editor (has a free version, but it is missing many features of the non-free versions):

https://www.nuance.com/print-capture-and-pdf-solutions/pdf-and-document-conversion/power-pdf-converter.html

https://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-editor

The following articles and videos that I've published here at EE on these products may interest you, especially the PDF-XChange Editor ones, which were all done with the free version:

Batch Conversion of PDF, TIFF, and Other Image Formats via Command Line Interface to PDF, PDF Searchable, and TIFF

Bates Stamping/Numbering of PDF Files with Power PDF Advanced

Convert Scanned Image-Only PDF Files to PDF Searchable Image Files via OCR with Power PDF Advanced

How to rotate pages in a PDF with free software

How to OCR pages in a PDF with free software

How to password-protect a PDF with free software

Other robust PDF packages to consider are CutePDF Pro, Foxit PhantomPDF Business, and Nitro Pro. I have the free readers or writers of all those products, not their editors, so I can't speak to them from personal use, but they have excellent reputations, and based on the quality of their readers, I wouldn't hesitate to give their editors a try. That said, I have both Nuance's Power PDF Advanced and Tracker's PDF-XChange Editor PRO, and I can that they are both excellent products. But none of the software mentioned in this paragraph is free.

As I said earlier, the PDF-XChange Editor features in my videos are available in its free version, but you'll need one of the paid versions in order to edit PDFs — the free version can't do it. Fortunately, the prices at the Tracker website are reasonable. Likewise, Power PDF (both Standard and Advanced) is reasonably priced at Amazon.

As a disclaimer, I want to emphasize that I have no affiliation with any of the companies mentioned in this post and no financial interest in them whatsoever. I am simply a happy user/customer. Regards, Joe

let me propose something else, since you are using Windows 10.
  • Create a virtual machine, mount the ISO and install Ubuntu in virtual machine
  • In Virtual Box, create a shared folder between Ubuntu and Windows 10, or from Ubuntu using SMB
