Firefox browser consuming high memory and CPU with multiple instances showing up in Task Manager

Hi I am using latest version of Mozilla firefox. I love this browser but I have noticed recently it started taking high CPU usage for no apparent reason.
I tried opening in safe mode but still same issue.

When I open firefox with only 1 tab which is google. Task manager shows 6 instances of Firefox running consuming CPU and memory each instance. I tried disabling all add ons but still same issue.

I am on Firefox Quantum 59.0.2 ( 64 bit ) and its upto date. I am running windows 10 64 bit OS with 16 GB Ram and SSD.

Anyone know how to fix it ?

Tried above steps but nothing really helped. Just going to live with number of firefox windows consuming memory and cpu usage. No addons are ON still taking high memory / cpu with number of sessions.

Try the following:
  1. Navigate to about:config
  2. Search for "browser.tabs.remote.autostart" (without the quotes)
  3. Set all results to false
Hope this will help, please let us know.

I see browser.tabs.remote.autostart two entries in the settings. I toggled them to false but it actually made firefox to use more CPU usage and memory. My CPU usage went to 50 percent against firefox one single open window.

I toggled one of them back to true now. Not sure what is causing this behaviour and would like to find out if anyone else encountering same issue.

I have the same issue too.
This new Firefox 59.0.2 on Windows 10 64-bit always took 50% or more of my CPU power.
Which is slowing down my PC. Have to use old version of Firefox.
