A client is complaining that one of his computers no longer appears in ´network places’ under Windows 10
What must one do to allow this PC to be discovered ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

disable / exclude network in windows firewall / network -

check the DNS ..

check the Gateway...
Enable network discovery. On win10 (on the system you want to be seen), visit network neighborhood - a banner should appear telling you "network discovery is off - click here to enable it".

Network Discovery (Browsing) is not reliable in Windows 10 - it may or may not work. Windows 10 itself cannot make itself Master Browser because any and all Windows 10 machines try to do the same thing.

Forget Browsing and use Map Network Drive or NET USE  in a batch script.

Also, if your Client has a Server, make sure the Master Browsing Service is running on the Server.
Yann ShukorOwnerAuthor Commented:
The two PCs could see each other before
The client simply moved his computers to another office space
therefore I presume that it is the Windows 10 browser which is at fault here
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Thanks. Yes the "master browser" concept is Windows 10 does not seem to be supported any more. I use LanScan on 3 Windows 10 Pro machines and it told me all 3 were the "master browser" and they all showed me different things.  It works better in a Server environment where the Server takes over.
So you are filing this under "broken by now"?
It is always advisable to use network drives instead of browsing network neighborhood, true, but I doubt very much that this feature is broken.
