Can't add Exchange contacts to email distribution group

Can't add Exchange contacts to email distribution list.

I'm using Exchange on SBS 2011.  For some reason I can't add Exchange contacts (external email addresses) to Exchange distribution groups in the Small Business Server console.  The funny thing is that I CAN do it if I use AD Users and Computers, but the contacts in the group never receive the email.  I can email contacts if they're not in a distribution group.  I think that the contacts won't work until I figure out why they can't be seen in the SBS console when adding users to distribution groups.

I've rebooted the server and made sure there are no mail flow restrictions when setting up the distribution group.

Hi,

How are you trying to add the external contact to the distribution group?

Assuming you have already created the external contact, and it shows under:

Exchange Management Console
Recipient Configuration
Mail Contact

Then try this:

Exchange Management Console
Recipient Configuration
Distribution Group
Right click the Group you want to add the external contact to
Properties
Members (Tab)
Click the 'Add' button
Select the external contact from the list
OK / OK / OK - Back to the main Console screen.

That should do it.

I resolved this by creating the distribution group and contacts in the Exchange console rather than the Small Business Server console.  I think the SBS console is "broke" with active directory.  Thanks for the input.
