How to repair install Windows 2012 standard server with Windows 2012 ISO

Hi

I have windows 2012 server and SQL is installed on this server and this is our database server. The task manger is not working on this server and when I right click the task bar and click the task manager the window is blank and the timing glass is thinking. If I click on the task manager windows, it says (Task Manager not responding).
So I ran DISM from command prompt and it gave me the below message as shown.
I restarted the Windows 2012 server after DISM and tried to open the task manager and no joy and the Task manger hangs when opened.

In the forum I was suggested to repair the install with 2012 Media, If the task manager doesn’t work. We use VMware and I can see the ISO for Windows 2012 Standard on one of the data stores. Will it be safe to do the repair OR Is there any other steps that I can try?

Please post me tutorials as how to repair the install through Windows 2012 ISO.

Thanks

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello

Do you have backup of that server? If so, you can perform a restoration.

Generates a report in the Performance monitor of the Windows Server tools, go to System / system performance and then system diagnostic, when it finishes it validates the reports in the performance monitor tool

To repair the operating system, you can do it by bouncing from an iso in repair system.

Or you can start the operating system by pressing F8 to start fail safe.

I remain attentive to your comments.

You can run a Repair but I would first check if there's any Windows Service Pack or Windows hotfix that need to be applied. Most of the times, it's known errors that can be corrected by applying the necessary hotfix.
So, first apply the last Service Pack and Hotfixes available for your Windows Server and then check if the issue has been resolved.

Insert the disk and do an "Upgrade" install. Did it recently and worked fine for 2012 R2 however it might not work for some 3rd party applications. Make a backup first

Problems using Powershell and Active Directory?

Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.  If you are spending more time trying instead of doing, then it's time to look at something else. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why

Will running windows update install the windows service packs , and how do I check a hot fix is available.
Please see the snapshot and there is a SQL server 2012 Service pack 4. Please suggest if I need to install this optional service pack update and other updates as well?

The task manager was working fine in the past and not sure from when it stopped working.
We have installed some very important third party applications that exports users data from  this SQL server to the cloud.

We have Veeam backup of the server.
Thanks

Hello,

Have you just presented problems with the task manager? or with some other operating system tool? You can do the following:

1- Repair the operating system, indicate a link on how to do it.

https://windowserver.wordpress.com/2014/04/03/windows-server-2012-opciones-de-arranque-cmo-reparo-una-instalacin/

2- Enter in safe mode and validate if the task manager works, validate the link.

3- Backup your database.

4- Make a restoration of that server.

Try to solve first with the two steps that I am indicating

Yes, update SQL Server as well but let's do it in 2 steps:
  1. Apply Windows Updates
  2. Apply SQL Server Service Pack

The domain\administrator  profile was corrupt.I tried logging in with a different domain administrator account  and the task manager worked fine with this account.
