Exchange Server 2016 Backup and Update

Hello Experts,

I have an Exchange server 2016 with Cumulative Update 5.  Do I install the Cumulative Update 6,7,8 and 9 in order or I can just install the Cumulative Update 9?  Also, I would like to create a backup of the Exchange database before applying the update.  Is it as simple as dismounting the database and making a copy?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Ok, so apply the latest Cumulative Update 9, correct?  I will use Windows Backup to create a one time backup for the purposes of update.  I do have a backup system.  Thanks.

oh ok if you already have a backup system then you don't need to use Windows backup, just use whatever you have.

Yes you can just install the latest update. be sure to review prerequisites for the update, because there may be new requirements. I know exchange 2016 cu9 will require .net framework 4.7.1, so that will have to be installed and setup prior to the install. other than reviewing preqs you can install the latest version.
One last related question, we are having Outlook 2010 on and off disconnect issue?  Will the Cumulative Update fix the disconnect problem?

No necessarily, that is a completely different issue, but there may be fixes in the CU9 for that issue. I can't say for sure. This could have been fixed in a previous CU so with CU9 being installed all previous fixes are included.
