Almost every router is configurable through its configuration page, look at the back of your router to get IP / URL or go to WIFI's advanced setting from your android and get router's ip which should be there as gateway and try to access your router from any browser via that ip.

Or you can reset the Wi-Fi password on your router and then use that.

Of course i understand that . However given the author does not want to root the phone (nor would I) then changing the password at source is a viable alternative

I do not think OP would go through all this trouble if OP had access to the router
