Automate a process to reduce manual efforts

I want to automate a process. For that I want to open a third party windows based application , do some actions like search and button click. What will be good solution to achieve this. Should I write some automation framework ?
P.S: I am a C# programmer

If your application  your are trying to automate has not been created for that, it will be a pain to do
you may consider to using a (test) tool like autoit where you should be able to do what you want.

if you want to do it with own c# code and the application is browser-based, you may look for code examples with the keywords 'c#' and 'scraper'. if it is pure winapi or mfc try to using spy from visual studio utilities in order to find out the id's of the dialogs and controls.
