Way to determine which programs require restarts.

Hello.

Does anyone know if there is a website that has a list of all known Windows applications that require a restart when installed or uninstalled?  Or if there is some alternative means of finding this out?  Command etc?

My goal is to be able to know in advance if installing or uninstalling a program will cause a production server to require a restart.

Thanks for any tips or info.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Not really possible. The SAME program (iTunes and Glary Utilities for example) may cause restart or not restart on the same machine or on different machines at different times - SAME program.

Thanks John, this makes sense and correlates with my experience.  It would be cool if the next iteration of Windows could pre-scan any open file interactions first and then notify you it needs to restart in advance to unlock them.
