[ASK] Mailbox Copy Status "Failed" but I can't Suspend It

Hi Guys,

I have a problem, hope anyone can help me

I have microsoft exchange 2010 with DAG in 4 servers (2 as main, hosted 4 mailbox, another 2 as replication, hosted 4 mailbox).
a brief overview is like this :
Mailbox a, b, c, d in Server 1
Mailbox a', b', c', d' in Server 1'
Mailbox d, e, f, g in Server 2
Mailbox d', e', f', g' in Server 2'

here's comes the problem, my mailbox e' copy status is failed, and when I try to suspend I got this notice :
Microsoft Exchange Error
Database 'Suspend Database Copy' cannot be suspended.

Suspend Database Copy
A server-side administrative operation has failed. Couldn't suspend the mailbox database copy because it is currently resynchronizing its log files with the source server. Please retry the operation as the error could be transient. [Database: e', Server: LK-XC-04-DR.contoso.com]

The Microsoft Exchange Replication service has not responded to the suspend request yet. The service may not be running. Press CTRL+C to stop waiting for the service to respond. You can check to see if it is suspended by using the Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell.

I already do these option :
1. restart server 2 and 2' --> still cannot suspend the database
2. restart cluster service --> still cannot suspend the database
3. restart "Microsoft Exchange Replication" Service --> cannot restart the service, error 1503 *I think

Hope you guys can help me give some solution.

Thanks a lot,

Why you want to suspend DB replication? If you want to put server in maintenance  mode, then better to use start/stop dag PS1 file. Command:

.\StartDagServerMaintenance.ps1 -serverName servername

once you are done run this:

.\StopDagServerMaintenance.ps1 -serverName servername

once you are done, redistributed db again using activation preference. Let me know, if that helps.

Are you performing backups? Maybe you could try to back up the database "E" in order to clean the logs. And then try to update the database copy.

Hi Amit,

tbh I'm new with exchange and it's DAG feature,
I want to suspend the database cause I want to re-seed mailbox e' with mailbox e as source,
In many case before, when I have mailbox with copy status failed, all I have to do is suspend it and then re-seed it with it's mirror.

is there any side effect when I run .\StartDagServerMaintenance.ps1 beside the DAG server entering maintenance mode ?

Hi Valentina,

Unfortunately no, I didn't backup the mailbox regulary.
When you say about clean the log, is there any default script or command that I can use ?

AmitIT ArchitectCommented:
There is no impact in using DAG ps command. Now in your case, I suggest you to focus on, why db need to be reseeded. If you have MS support, open MS case and analyze more.
