I need to migrate a VM to AWS.

Does anyone have the instruction to install the plugin for the vsphere console and export?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

First off, on a large scale... more than a couple VM's...  the migration tools don't always work well for a variety of reasons. You will be better suited to redeploy NEW, with the scripted installation of tools and applications.

I've been there... and done this several times... If all your VM's are the same you have a chance of making this work with a migration tool.

Hello, I plan to clone the VM I want to migrate.  This way, I will not have to shut the VM and affect production.

Just want to clarify, after I downloaded and deployed the OVF file into vSphere, my vSphere environment will have the connector to connect to AWS.  I then can go back to the AWS console>SMS and "browse-and-import" the cloned VM?

Please advise if this is the right direction or if there is another better way.

Hi nav2567,

you are correct. Once you configure server migration connector you need to setup replication job within AWS console. You can do a one time job to replicate VM to AWS or schedule replication. During that process an AMI is created and you can deploy AWS instance from it.
