Microsoft Office 2016 will not stay activated.

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased a new laptop for a user.  I installed Microsoft office 2016 with our volume license key, but I am having a hard time activating the license.  After I put in the license key, it still says I need to activate.    I did some research and ran the Microsoft office clean up tool.  I then reinstalled office 2016 standard and the license activated.  Then the next day, I get the message to activate the license.  I have called both the pc manufacturer and Microsoft and no one is able to help me.

Does anyone know why my office 2016 standard will not stay activated?

Did the laptop come with a different version of Office installed as a trial version?

Yes, this is a lenovo laptop that had a trial office 365.  I completely removed the trial and also ran a tool from Microsoft that removes all remnants of any remaining office installation.   I then reinstalled office 2016 and was able to activate it.  Two days later, it is asking me to activate again.  I tried this about three times and it always ends up with the activate message.

We get Lenovo laptops and there is no Office trial because we do not select it.  It for sure is a  different version than your volume license. We take a machine with no Office trial and add our own Office and it stays activated. We had an issue with a couple of machines a year or so ago and just reactivated - nothing recent.

Ask Lenovo Support again, and if you are not too far into the new machine, perhaps ask for a recovery image without Office  and start again.
