Is it okay to use off-brand ink for Epson printer?

I have an Epson WF-7610 printer and Epson inks are quite expensive, especially the XL which are the ones I normally get. I found an off-brand on Amazon which goes for half the price. It has great reviews so I went ahead and bought it. Shortly after buying it, it got me thinking that it might destroy my printer even though the reviews are good. What are some bad effects this off-brand ink can have?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. I've used non OEM ink cartridges for quite sometime with two different printer manufacturers, on Epson and Brother printers.
Issues: seemed if the printer was unused more head cleaning required (using ink), but that's about it.

If the 3rd party cartridges work, fine.  They often cause issues from leakage (similar to what was said above).  If the cartridges cause issues and damage the printer, that is then your problem.

So what you're saying is if my computer is idle, it requires head cleaning each time I want to use it again? Can this be prevented by turning my printer off? And as far as leakage, can this destroy the printer?

First point, not likely it can be prevented.
Second point, maybe, maybe not. The risk is all yours.

The idea that the money between Epson's price and 3rd party is all fat is rubbish. 3rd party manufacturers save money on quality and engineering. They do not tell you this, so the risk is all yours.

Thank you both for your input. I don't think I'm willing to take the risk with this off-brand. I'm sticking with the Epson brand.

Thanks and yes Good Idea to stick with Epson. I use HP Genuine Ink and my Black cost is about 1 cent per page so the economics are good
