Computers no longer listed in the Network on our domain

Computers in our domain have Function Discovery Resource Publication service turned off.

I just noticed today when clicking on the "Network" that none of the computers were listed.  So after checking the services I found this set to manual and turned off.

What would all of a sudden cause this?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Maybe a recent update caused it?

Also this can be a side effect of wrong atni-virus/firewall configuration.

turns out it was a problem with the DNS server not having the correct Gateway.  After I fixed that all the computers were visible.
