What is the language of the actual text and objects in the deck? To find out, select an object and click the Tools menu, then Language. Is the object set to English?

When you create an object or type text on a slide, PowerPoint assigns the language based on your keyboard settings. If someone with a Spanish keyboard adds text to a slide, even if they type in English, the text will be labeled as being Spanish language so the spellcheck will be confused.
