VOIP phone hostname

Anyone knows if there is a way to change a hostname in Polycom SoundStation 7000?   So it would broadcast an actual hostname instead of the make/model name.
Easier to manage and troubleshoot.

The answer is seemingly yes, but would require that you use the DHCP bootp option to achieve your goal.

You could knowing the phone maker and the Phone MAC address, create a DNS mapping achieving your goal by adding CNAME records for the phone_hostname pointing to the policom_MAC address.

this way, you minimize a coincidence of an adjustment to a configuration and phone that stops working as you would not be touching anything having to do with the phone.
