I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Not sure what you are inquiring about.  Are you asking about getting a public domain name like yourcompanyname.com ?
If so this is not possible.  You need to purchase it from a services like GoDaddy, Google, Network Solutions.

Here is a list I found.  So say free, but it looks like it stipulates that you need to purchase web hosting, which is not really free.

@Bekim Noka

You can get a free domain using @Shaun's method, but remember this old saying?

"You get what you pay for"  Using that method, you most likely won't get any real traffic to that site and chances are they will throttle and redirect traffic that you send to that site. If you are just looking at a simple domain name to experiment with, that may be your best option. If you are looking for something maybe a little more robust that you can use for business or promotions, this most likely isn't the option for you.
