where can I go online to review personal grants awarded to individuals by the federal government and private sectors?

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

I am wondering where I can go online to review a list of personal grants awarded by the federal government and private sectors.  Realizing that most grant monies are awarded to small businesses, non-profit organizations and agencies, college students, etc.,  I know this will be a rather difficult question.  However, if there are any grants awarded to individuals based upon financial need, I am certainly interested in checking them out on behalf of a dear friend.

            Thank you

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello John,

Thank you for your resourceful links.  While the resources available certainly cover a wide scope of disadvantaged people, it was not quite what I am looking for with respect to grants for the disabled or elderly that help in paying preexisting medical or dental bills.  Assuming it exist, it is almost like this information is hidden.   If you have any further input, please feel free to to submit it.  There might not be any additional information to provide regarding this concern.  If that is the case, I will understand.

I suggest talking to a local not for profit financial counsellor as they will be able to assist your friend

Hi John,

Thank you for your tips and resourceful links.  From what I have been gathering, it appears that most grant monies are distributed to organizations as opposed to individuals struggling with the cost of everyday living.  That said, I think it still goes back to checking with local non-profit organizations for assistance.  In the meantime, I will be providing the needed financial aid to my friend until we can see further on this matter.
