login scripts

Hello all,

Is it a good practice to create a login script for each user to map network srives?
Is there any alternative?

Pros, easier to maintain.
Cons, cannot do very complex business logic if that's needed (it rarely is.)

Group Policy Preferences is the preferred method over login scripts.

Defining them in Group Policy would be a better way of doing this.

It's already been answered by the other two. You can have Group Policy targeting different groups, and not have to worry about maintaining a file and associating it to each user's profile.

processing GP Preferences is faster than logon scripts. Even if you decide to go with item-level targeting it’s still faster than your script.  Microsoft’s official recommendation is to use GP Preferences whenever possible over logon scripts
