Remove DameWare Mini Remote Control client from Win 10 computer

What are the best ways to remove the DameWare Mini Remote Control client from a Windows 10 computer?

The DameWare Mini Remote Control client doesn't appear within the Programs and Features applet.

What is the best way of removing or uninstalling it?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

With client, do you mean the server service allowing remote control of this machine, or the client used to remote control other machines? In any case you should see something in Programs and Features.
You can remove the service remotely from the DWMRC client, or use sc locally or from remote. IIRC you can download a removal tool from Solarwinds too.

What is the URL for downloading the removal tool from?

Hi IT Guy,

Removal instructions are provided in this ExterminateIt! malpedia article.

Another good resource you may find helpful is this "Manually uninstall DameWare Remote Support and Mini Remote Control from a machine" article at the Solarwinds website.

I hope that's helpful.

Are there any utilities, programs, or files that can be run that will do all of these things automatically without these things needing to be done manually?

Hi IT Guy,

Yes, from the first link I provided in my previous comment, at the bottom of the page there is a Download Link to "Download Exterminate It!" which is a program to remove the DameWare Remote Support and Mini Remote Control from a machine. I can't vouch for its effectiveness as I've never used it myself, but it's something you may like to try as it claims to do what you want.

I would personally recommend using the manual method described though. That way, you know all the possibilities have been covered without having to rely on a tool doing it properly for you.

I hope that's helpful.

IT Guy.

Just further to my last comment, if you do elect to use the tool to do the removal for you, I would also recommend the following scans after the tool completes the removal process.

A full system scan by a reputable Antivirus like Avast or your own favorite antivirus software
A full system scan by an up to date free copy of Malwarebytes
A full system scan by HitMan Pro

Again, I don't recommend relying on the removal of such things using an automated tool as you can never be sure that everything has been covered. The only way to be sure is to manually remove all the items yourself.

I hope that's helpful.
