Empty DCIM Folder when tranferring photos

My iPhone is full but when I try to transfer photos to my computer, I get a message that the DCIM folder is empty.

First of all, you need to unlock (type in your lock screen password) your iPhone when you connect it to the computer. Also, your iPhone will prompt you a message asking you to trust the computer, you'll need to give full permission for that.

This process is easier on a Mac, you can use either Photo or Image Capture.
