Restore previous version of s/w to get file list in registry?

I have Windows 7 Pro SP1 installed. I use WeBuilder as my IDE. I recently upgraded from WeBuilder 2016 to WeBuilder 2018 after asking support how to keep the active files (in the tabs) when upgrading. They said that I should backup the settings, which I did, uninstall 2016 and install 2018, which I did. Unfortunately, when I opened the app the files were gone. After back & forth comms with support, they said the file list was likely held in the registry and that by installing 2018 the list was most likely deleted.

My question is this: If I uninstall 2018, reinstall 2016, then restore windows to the time before I uninstalled 2016, would you expect 2016 to recognize and show this list of files in the app?

Thank you

You need support to clarify the registry issue
It maybe that the information is stored in the settings you backed up but needs a pointer in the registry to see them (in which case your plan could work) but it may be they are all retained in a Registry Key (like the most recently used locations for a browser).  If that's the case unless you have an image of your system containing the registry content from before the upgrade  you've lost them for good.

TBH as you report it, "back up the settings", is not the most helpful advice if they aren't telling you which "settings" you need to backup.  "And it's likely the registry is involved" doesn't fill me with confidence you're speaking to the right person either!

Thank you MASQ.

For those following this ..

Regarding your TBH comment, I agree. I did, however, contact support over the last two days, and felt I was pulling teeth. In the end I've decided that I'll save more time and headaches by going through my 500 or so scripts and selecting those that were in the IDE before I upgraded, and hopefully get back to the ones I had. Then I'll prtscn the list at regular intervals since there's no other way in the app to do this. I don't want to rely on restoring W7 after every IDE upgrade. Support said the file tabs should show automatically, but I don't have confidence in this, nor their support knowledge.
Hope this helps.
