asked on

is R service/service and Python in SQL 2016/2017 free to use by all mean?

Hi,

Anyone know if the R server in SQL 2016 and R and Python feature in SQL 2017 need additional license?

Answer should be a no as MS always license everything SQL server by a single cost and ALL feature is charged already.

Microsoft R Open and Python Anaconda (The Most Popular Python Data Science Platform) are both open source and royalty free
https://mran.microsoft.com/open

but here I am referring to the R service and R server in the SQL server installation, not the language is about.
sql 2016+ have r and python services that are free and open source..
Did you miss this quote
ust like R, Microsoft R Open 3.4.3 is open source and free to download, use, and share.
you mean this statement "Microsoft R Open 3.4.3" is referring to the R service and R server, right?

"sql 2016+ have r and python services that are free and open source..

only SQL2017 has python , is that right ?
yes 2017 has Anaconda python
so it seems that as long as we can use that server/services, it is free ?

"yes you still need sql server cal's unless you bought per core version,
"

yeah. MS way! actualy I don't like that as when we upgrade SQL server, all CAL license has to upgrade too.
tks.
