Prerequisites for Modern Authentication in a Hybrid Exchange 2013/2016/Office 365 environment

Prerequisites for Modern Authentication in a Hybrid Exchange 2013/2016/Office 365 environment...
Is enabling Mapi/Http on my on-premises Exchange Servers a mandatory Prerequisite?
I know it is enabled by default in office 365.

Add this to the mix... We are using Alternate Login ID (mail attribute) & want to be able to see Public Folders in a coexistence state (synced/prior to migrated to cloud)
AD Connect with no ADFS.

So is Mapi/Http needed on-premises?

Thank you

Perhaps I phrased incorrectly..  I have a hybrid server but want to use modern authentication in office 365 and be able to access coexistence Public Folders on prem.

Hybrid Modern Authentication newer and I believe this is not something that I require.

okay this is confusing when they use Hybrid Modern Authentication.. I suppose the one you showed me is...

Hybrid Modern Authentication overview and prerequisites for using it with on-premises Skype for Business and Exchange servers

while the other is...

Announcing Hybrid Modern Authentication for Exchange On-Premises
So what's the question then? MAPI/HTTP *IS* a requirement for any form of Modern auth.
