OpenManager Server Administrator setup in ESXi 6.0

Hi Guys

I have a new Dell PowerEdge R430 server that is configured with ESXi 6.0. The server is RAID 5 configured and it has a single vmfs datastore set up.  It currently hosts 12 VMs with an average of 4 running at any one time.  The server is standalone, so is not part of a vSphere environment, it is managed through the VMware Host client.

We have been experiencing unexpected reboots of the server.  The ESXi logs haven't helped up to now as they were being stored in a ramdisk so getting lost after each reboot.  I have now reconfigured the logs to write to a scratch folder.

I am now keen to get OpenManage Server Administrator installed so I can see exactly what is going on on this server.  My question is, can I set this up in a standalone environment like I have, the documentation doesnt seem to mention installing through the VMware Host client, I assume it should just be the same, upload to the datastore and run the installer via SSH ??

How do I then view the OMSA ?  Is there a client I need to install on my laptop ?

Thanks
Matthew

not really going to tell you why its rebooting?

so lets start with did you install the OEM Dell version of ESXi 6.0?

Hi Andrew

OK, I thought it would help with troubleshooting, and identifying any faulty hardware.  Also, I have worked on a few ESXi hosts but never configured OMSA so I thought it might be a worthwhile exercise.

The server came with the OEM Dell version of ESXi 6.0 pre-installed, I think on an SD card.

Thanks
Matthew
Okay, so.....

first things first update all firmware and update ESXi 6.0 to latest build.

How often does it reboot....

and what is the CPU and Memory Summary ?

finally the Host is on the HCL ?
Hi again Andrew

Thanks for the reply.

The server is running the latest version of the Dell custom ESXi build and the firmware is up to date.

CPU is currently at 4% utilization and RAM is at 54%

The host does appear on the HCL

I have since moved the server out of the rack and onto my desk in a different room, different power supply etc. and we haven't had any reboots over the last few days........

We do have another ESXi server that is plugged into the same UPS that seems to have started displaying the same fault so its looking like the UPS could be on the way out.

Time to start looking at that I guess.

Thanks for all your help on this
