Error message (“You can’t carry out this action at present time”)

I want to abort close the form when the application finds that the application expiry date is beyond agreed date, example:

If Date() > 04/01/2018 then
MsgBox “ Please note your database has expired”
End Sub

The above code is behind the start-up form, the problem is that, it gives an error below:

“You can’t carry out this action at present time”
So how can suppress it

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What event are you using to run this?

If you put it in the Open event, you can replace:

Cancel = true

If Date() > #04/01/2018# then
    MsgBox “ Please note your database has expired”
End Sub

Open in new window

Actually, setting Cancel = True will only close the form.  You need to close the application.  Try:

Private Sub Form_Load

    If Date() > #04/01/2018# then
        MsgBox “ Please note your database has expired”
        DoCmd.Close acform,
    End Sub
End Sub
