Your WSUS on server 2008 R2 can, if updated, serve updates for server 2016 and windows 10.
You would simply need to install all updates for the server itself. 3.2.7600.226 is not the latest WSUS 2008 R2 build number.
Update it and all will be well and you can see that 2016 server will be selectable as update  product category.

Look, this is about server 2016. There are no feature updates for server 2016 1607 as there are for win10, which are inplace upgrades, possible through WSUS, no matter what WSUS version.

Upgrades to the higher builds of server 2016 (for example 1709) will need to be done as clean installations, see 2nd question in the FAQ

As for Win10, I meant security updates, not feature updates. Doing feature updates to clients using WSUS is pretty risky, though, and I would not even recommend it, so even from that side, server 2008 R2 is fine for now.
This is the best money I have ever spent. I cannot not tell you how many times these folks have saved my bacon. I learn so much from the contributors.

We have added 2016 servers in our WSUS server (WSUS Version: 3.2.7600.226)  but OS version they are showing is 2008 in wsus console.
Cliff Galiher

Correct. It isn't officially supported on WSUS 3.2, and WSUS 3.2 was never updated to properly detect server 2016.

If you want a supported configuration, yes.

It seems , you have not read what I wrote down.

Server 2016 can receive updates from server 2008 R2 WSUS. You will have to install patches on your WSUS for this to work. The version you indicate is outdated, 3.2.7600.226 has not seen patches in years. The above list is showing 3.2.7600.274 as the latest WSUS version, but there might be already a newer one.

So, how do you patch your WSUS itself, never? Please install patches for it and support for 2016 will be added.

Thanks for your response .

Do i need to look at upstream WSUS version also before upgrading downstream (WSUS 3.0 (SP2) + KB2938066:      Build 3.2.7600.274)
McKnife

You upgrade them all and make sure they are receiving self updates from now on.

Johnny, why don't you close the question? Still on it? Need more help?
