How To use API to capture selected data from another application

POS systems are widely used in supermarkets. All the POS in a supermarket should be connected to the POS center which is accessed to EFD system.
The POS system should be able to capture the important data from the electronic fiscal device (EFD) as follows:
(1)      EFD Invoice Number  ( String) in Ms access database invoice form in control called TaxInvoiceNumber
(2)      EFD Signature (picture) to be captured at the end of the invoice report
(3)      EFD date same as above
(4)      EFD Time same as above
Now my question is that is there a way we can use an API code to help us capture the above date from a window based application called EFD?????

Kindly see how you can help us on this, the above software is used for tax purpose in many countries. I will appreciate your help regarding the above issue.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Contact the vendor of the application and ask them.

Ok

From the meeting we had yesterday, it was resolved that, only the receipt or invoice number from the EFD gadget must be captured either manually or using a code on the normal sales accounting invoice , each company will be given a range of invoice numbers, for example 1000001 - 2000000. Now this where our access database comes , is it possible to write a code to check the following:

(1) That the invoice number falls within the same range
(2) Reject duplicates
(3) Reject incomplete invoice number

For example the TBLcustomerInvoice will the following controls

(1) Start Squence
(2) End Squence

The above parameters will be changed every year but in line with EFD gadget serial numbers

You can do pretty much anything you want with code.  You may run into someone here who has used the specific software you are interfacing with but you really would have better luck trying one of their forums.  I don't have any clue how to get data out of the POS so I can't even give you a starting point.  Does it export csv files?  Excel? fixed format?  some proprietary format?  Do they offer an ODBC driver so you can actually link to the tables from Access?
