How do I get MS Outlook 2013 to load Gmail unread messages.

MS Office 2013 Outlook will not refresh when connected to Gmail.

When I wake up my PC from the sleep mode and I open MS Outlook  which is connected to my Gmail Account, the unread list of emails does not update.

I have tried pressing F9 to refresh the Outlook screen and it still does refresh the list of unread emails that I know are in Gmail.
I have tried sending my self a new email to force it to update but that does not work either.

Is there a setting somewhere in MS Outlook to refresh whenever new email items are in Gmail or refresh the data every 5 minutes?

My email settings type is: IMAP/SMTP

Thanks in advance for your help.

In outlook   File>Options>Advanced>Scroll down to "Send and Receive", make sure there is a check in "Send immediately when Connected"
Click the Send/Receive Button... highlight all accounts go down to settings for group "All Accounts" put a check in Include this group in Send/Receive (F9), Put a check in schedule and automatic send/receive every   (Drop it down to however minutes you want)  Do that for "When outlook is Offline" as well
