Microsoft Edge icon has disappeared
On a user's Windows 10 computer, the Microsoft Edge icon has disappeared from both the Start Menu and the taskbar.
The icon hasn't reappeared even after rebooting the computer. This computer has all Windows 10 updates installed.
What can be done to restore this icon?

Start, left side, scroll down for Microsoft Edge, right click, more, Pin to Taskbar. Also Pin to Start.

John,
I have already tried doing that several times and that hasn't fixed the problem.
The location that should have the Edge icon is just blank.

Try the following:
Open cmd.exe with Run as Administrator and run: dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart and test.
If you are still have issues, make a new, test Windows User Profile (Account). Log into the new Windows Account and test again.

I have already tried both the SFC and DISM commands and these haven't fixed this issue.

Run an in-place Windows 10 Repair Install and Keep Everything.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Windows 10 is running, so click on the Download button (not Upgrade Button, select Open (Run) but NOT Save. Allow the program to run. Allow drivers to update. Then select Keep Everything.
Beware that Repair Installs do not fix damaged user profiles.

Is this a windows ADvnetwork, does the user use roaming profiles/redirected folders?
Does the user get a temporary profile on login?
This suggests that the user's profile was/is seen as in use.
The fix while the user is logged in to access the system's registry remotely.

Switch the user's SID referenced .bak and without the suffix by renaming the Sid without the .bak as .tenp or anything else that will allow you to take out the .bak suffix from the other.
Once you make the change, have the user logout and log back in.
The other issue is he user's access to the quick links, or ..... Is somehow being hampered.
If any other user logs into this system, does the icon show app.
Another though, checking the default apps to see whether Ineternet explorer is set as the default app instead of edge.
