Clone of a VM( Exchange) stuck in 5% and not progressed even after 8 hours- Can i cancel the process


I was trying to clone or Exchange 2007 server at 12:05am and after 5% progress , it gave me an error saying " An error occurred while quiescing the virtual machine"  and I saw a kb article and it was saying that I need to start the Virtual Disk service in services on the exchange server. I started this service on the exchange server and tried again to clone and this time the error didn't popup. But it has stuck on 5% and not progressed at all, it is now almost 8 hours since I started this process and something is not right.

If I right click the exchange server, it gives a cancel option and would like to cancel and if I cancel the clone process, will there be any problem with the exchange server?

Please let me know what to do at this stage. Any help would be great!

Please try to turn off the VM to expedite the process ?

By the way, Exchange server does not support when cloned.
This is as per Microsoft recommendation.

Now , I don't have much down time  to clone and would like to cancel the clone process. If I right click the clone process and cancel, will my exchange get into problems.

The issue could be when the disk consolidation process happening it could kill the VM or make it offline for few times.

I don't think canceling the clone would create problem. It is just creating replica of original image. Original Image would be untouched.

And if you are able to Clone VM somehow make sure you Sysprep it.

Exchange server would be unusable if it is sysprepped.

The error message means that the system could not create a snapshot of the disk due to high disk activity.  You probably can't do a backup either since the vss snapshot cannot be created due to high disk activity

What I would do is restore from a backup to a new VM.. What is your ultimate aim for doing the clone in the first place?  A lazy-man's backup?

Usual problems stunning Exchange DB or your VSS is broke in VM

Or datastore too slow
